Anne Marie Freybourg (* 1952 in Remscheid ) is a German art historian and curator .

Life

Anne Marie Freybourg grew up in Hamburg and has lived and worked in Berlin since 1982. She studied literature , philosophy and art history at the University of Hamburg and graduated in 1979 with a Magister Artium . As a postgraduate of the DAAD she studied Cinema Studies with Annette Michelson at New York University until the end of 1981 . In 1994 she did her doctorate with Manfred Brauneck at the University of Hamburg with a thesis on author's cinema under the book title Reading Pictures. Visions of love and politics with Godard and Fassbinder .

After completing her studies, in 1983 she founded “Kunstpraxis”, an office for exhibitions, texts and projects. She began to work as a freelance curator first with René Block and then with Harald Szeemann , and in 1984 she curated her first exhibition. In the spring of 1989 she founded a postgraduate program to promote female visual artists , the “Goldrausch Female Artists Program ” (now Goldrausch female artist project art IT ), which she directed until 2001.

Since 2000 she has dealt with questions of " art in public space " and " art in architecture " and is a juror for Berlin, Brandenburg and the federal government. She was a member of the art commission for the Federal Garden Show 2001 in Potsdam and curator for contemporary art at the Federal Garden Show 2009 in Schwerin (2009). In 2016 she organized the "City | Art + Park" congress, contemporary art and new gardens for the German Federal Horticultural Show Society (DBG).

In 2001, in cooperation with the DRK Kliniken Berlin- Westend , she started an “Art in the Hospital” program that shows exhibitions of contemporary art for patients and employees. The exhibition program now includes five art exhibitions running at the same time. Further program lines place contemporary art in the context of medicine and health. In addition, she designed the series "Poets and Doctors" with programs such. B. Gottfried Benn or William Carlos Williams .

Freybourg publishes on contemporary art and artists such as B. Richard Dunn , Adam Jankowski and deals with art theoretical and sociological questions on the function of art and the role of the artist. Her art reviews can be found in " artnet - Magazin" and "von Hundred".
