Maren Möhring

Maren Möhring (* 1970 in Bremen ) is a German historian and professor for the comparative cultural and social history of modern Europe at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Maren Möhring studied history, German and educational science at the University of Hamburg from 1990 to 1998 . From 1993 to 1994 she was an Erasmus scholarship holder at Trinity College in Dublin and from 1998 to 2001 she was a DFG scholarship holder in the graduate college "Gender Difference & Literature" at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 2002 Möhring completed her doctorate at LMU Munich with a thesis on marble bodies. Physical Education in German Nude Culture (1890-1930) .

In 2010 she completed her habilitation with a monograph on the history of foreign gastronomy in the Federal Republic of Germany. The habilitation thesis was published in 2012 under the title Fremdes Essen. The history of foreign gastronomy in the Federal Republic of Germany near Oldenbourg. Möhring received various prizes for the habilitation thesis. From 2012 to 2014 she was head of Department III The Change of Politics at the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam . In March 2014, she accepted a call from Leipzig University and has since worked there as a professor for the comparative cultural and social history of modern Europe. Her research areas are the cultural and social history of the 19th and 20th centuries, consumer history, migration research, postcolonial studies, gender and body history as well as history and film.
