Marengo is the county seat of Iowa County in the state of Iowa . 2010 lived 2528 inhabitants in the city; the Iowa River flows through Marengo.
history
Marengo was created in 1845 and officially founded in 1847. Since construction began, the city was the county seat of Iowa County, although it was not recognized as a city until 1859. The name "Marengo" was chosen in memory of the Battle of Marengo , in which Bonaparte defeated the Austrian army.
The Iowa County Courthouse, built in 1893, is on the National Register of Historic Places .
