Maret Vaher (born January 12, 1973 in Saverna , rural municipality Valgjärve ) is an Estonian orienteer , ski orienteer and mountain bike orienteer .

Career

Maret Vaher contested her first world championship in 1990 in ski orienteering while still wearing the jersey of the Soviet Union when she was eighth and seventh in the individual competitions, and fourth in the relay with Svetlana Beresin and Jekaterina Petrowa . Her greatest success at an orienteering ski world championship came in 1994 in the Non Valley in Italy, when she won the bronze medal on the long distance behind Pepa Miluschewa from Bulgaria and Virpi Juutilainen from Finland. She started at the World Ski Orienteering Championships in 1996 and 1998 and took fifth place with the Estonian relay, which in 1992 had reached fourth place with Maret Vaher. After that, Vaher concentrated more on orienteering in summer. She started at the World Championships in 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2006, but did not get past a 25th place in an individual competition. At the European Championships in Ukraine in 2000 , she was sixth on the long distance. From 2006 she started to orientate herself in mountain bike races. At the 2007 World Cup she reached tenth place in the middle distance. In 2009 she was fifth at the European Long Distance Championship.

She belongs to the OK Põlva Kobras association. She is 68 times Estonian champion and also won 33 silver and 17 bronze medals. Orienteering athlete Ruth Vaher is her sister.
