Philip Sterling

Philip Sterling (born October 9, 1922 in New York City , † November 30, 1998 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American actor , jazz pianist and the first President of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation .

Life

Philip Sterling was born the son of a Philadelphia lawyer . He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School . He then worked as a jazz pianist before making his acting debut in Cole Porter's Silk Stockings on Broadway in 1955. Although he then concentrated almost entirely on acting, he still played individual pieces of music. Under the leadership of Pierre Boulez, he recorded the melodrama A Survivor from Warsaw with the New York Philharmonic . He also appeared on the radio more often. However, Sterling became known in particular through his countless appearances in television series such as Young and Passionate - As Life Plays , Chief Physician Dr. Westphall and A Strauss of Daughters , and TV films like Entebbe , Judy Garland - a Hollywood star's apprenticeship and a team like a million .

Philip Sterling died on November 30, 1998 of complications from his osteomyelofibrosis disease. He left behind his wife Rhona, with whom he had been married since August 16, 1969, and their daughter Mila.
