Margareta Sjöstedt

Margareta Sjöstedt , also Margarete Sjöstedt (born November 17, 1923 in Stockholm ; † March 14, 2012 in Vienna ) was a Swedish - Austrian opera singer (alto) and a long-time member of the Vienna State Opera .

Life

Sjöstedt studied from 1947 to 1951 at the Stockholm Royal Music Academy , and later at the University of Music in Vienna . After she had engagements at the Stadttheater Basel and the Stadttheater Saarbrücken from 1953 , she made her debut on September 4, 1956 at the Vienna State Opera and then appeared there in 1015 performances until 1982. In 1963 Sjöstedt married the theater scholar and deputy director of the Burgtheater Heinrich Kraus .

The singer was awarded the title of Chamber Singer and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class .
