Margaret of Flanders († 1285)
Margaret of Flanders (* around 1251; † July 3, 1285 ) was a duchess of Brabant .
Life
Margaret of Flanders was the daughter of Guido I from the House of Dampierre , Count of Flanders and Namur , and his first wife Mathilde de Béthune . She was betrothed either in 1266 to Peter of Bretagne († 1268), Lord of Dinan etc., second son of Duke John I of Bretagne, or around 1256 to Florens the Vogt († 1258); In any case, the desired marriage did not materialize because the bridegroom died soon after the engagement.
In 1273 Margaret of Flanders finally married Johann I , Duke of Brabant († 1294), who shortly before had his first wife Margaret of France , daughter of the French King Louis IX. , had lost.
The marriage of Margaret of Flanders and John I had four children:
- Gottfried (* 1273/74; † after 1283)
- John II the Peacemaker (born September 27, 1275 - † October 27, 1312), Duke of Brabant and Limburg
- Margaret of Brabant (October 4, 1276 - December 14, 1311), in 1292 she married the later Roman-German King Henry VII.
- Maria (* around 1278 † November 2, 1338), in 1297 she married Count Amadeus V of Savoy
Margarete von Flandern died on July 3, 1285 and was buried in the Franciscan church in Brussels , where her husband later found his final resting place.
