Margo Price
Margo Rae Price (born April 15, 1983 in Aledo , Illinois ) is an American country singer and songwriter from Nashville , Tennessee . Her debut solo album Midwest Farmer's Daughter was released on March 25, 2016 on Third Man Records . In December 2018, Price was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammy Awards .
biography
Price was born and raised in the small town of Aledo, Illinois in 1983. She learned to play the piano and sang in the church choir before studying dance and theater at Northern Illinois University . In 2003, she dropped out at the age of 20 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee to make music. In Nashville, Price worked in a number of jobs including serving as a waitress and dance teacher for children. Together with her husband, guitarist Jeremy Ivey, she was part of the political band Secret Handshake and later founded the band Buffalo Clover and later Margo and the Pricetags with him. Sturgill Simpson and Kenny Vaughan , longtime guitarist in Marty Stuart's band , were both with the line-up at different times. In 2014 Price was added to Rolling Stone Country 's "Country Artists You Need to Know" list.
The debut solo album Midwest Farmer's Daughter was released on March 25, 2016 on the Third Man Records label by Jack White . On April 9, 2016, Margo Price was a musical guest on the show Saturday Night Live , shortly afterwards she appeared on British television on Later ... with Jools Holland and further appearances on radio and television followed. In 2017, after an EP called Weakness with All American Made, the second album followed, on which Willie Nelson also sang a guest contribution. Both albums were able to place in the US country charts, the US indie charts and the regular Billboard 200 charts, both albums rose to the top position in the British country charts and , in addition to concert tours in 2016 and 2017, Price performed at Glastonbury in 2017 Festival on.
