history

Since the previous church was dilapidated and, from the middle of the 19th century, too small for the increased population of Söhre, the current church was built in 1877, including the previous church tower built around 1400. In 1977/78 the church, located around 103 meters above sea level , was renovated and a newly furnished main altar was consecrated on October 21, 1978 by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . In him were relics of the holy martyrs Cantius, Cantianus, and Cantianilla , St. Bishop and Martyr Oliver and St. Bishop Bernward let in.

Since December 1, 2002, the church has belonged to the then newly founded Deanery Alfeld-Detfurth, previously it belonged to the Deanery Bockenem-Detfurth. The " Heilig Geist " church of Heimstatt Röderhof and the " St. Antonius " chapel on the property of the former Röderhof youth meeting place have also belonged to the parish of "Assumption of Mary" since then, before they belonged to the parish of "St. Nikolaus ”in Egenstedt.
