Maria Cocchetti

Maria Cocchetti (born June 19, 1966 in Lovere ) is an Italian marathon runner .

She began her career as a mountain runner and became a national champion in this discipline in 1987, 1988 and 1990. At the 1990 World Mountain Running Championships , she won the silver medal.

In 1999 she tried her hand at the 42.195 km distance and immediately finished sixth in the Cesano Boscone Marathon in 2:42:33 h. In 2000 she finished second in the Maratona di Sant'Antonio , and in 2001 she won the Ravenna Marathon.

In 2002 she won the Rome Marathon and the South Tyrolean Spring Half Marathon and came fourth in the Venice Marathon . After her victory at the Maratona d'Europa in 2003, she was nominated for the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis , but had to cancel at the last minute due to an injury.

In 2005 she was third at the Maratona di Sant'Antonio. In 2006 she won the Maratona d'Europa again and came second there in 2007.

Maria Cocchetti is 1.57 meters tall and weighs 44 kg. She starts for Tre Stelle Nautica Bolis and is coached by Luciano Gigliotti. Until the birth of her daughter in 1998, she worked in a textile factory.
