Maria Eichwald (born October 26, 1974 in Talghar / Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh-German ballet dancer .

Life

Maria Eichwald attended the National Ballet School of Alma-Ata and after graduating she joined the National Ballet of Kazakhstan. In a short time she became a soloist. In 1995 she left Kazakhstan and emigrated to Germany because she has German ancestors . In 1996 she became a solo dancer of the Bavarian State Ballet in Munich and in 1999 she was promoted to first soloist. She danced Tatjana in Onegin , Odette / Odile in Swan Lake ( John Cranko ), Nikija in La Bayadère , Kitri in Don Quichotte Marius Petipa , Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Marguerite Gautier in Die Kamelliendame ( John Neumeier ). She has danced leading roles in Giselle and Manon ( Kenneth MacMillan ) and in ballets by George Balanchine , William Forsythe and Jerome Robbins .

In 2000/2001 she danced at the invitation of Alicia Alonso with the Cuban National Ballet. In 2003 she danced with the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen . In 2001 she appeared at the gala Les Etoiles du XXIe siecle in Paris. Eichwald was nominated for the Prix ​​Benois de la Danse in 2002.

In 2004, Maria Eichwald moved from Munich to the Stuttgart Ballet as first soloist . In December 2005 she made a tour of Japan with the play Onegin and the Stuttgart Ballet and danced alongside Manuel Legris in the title role. After the world premiere of the choreography for Der Sandmann by Christian Spuck , she had to take a break for two years from 2006 due to an injury. In 2014 Maria Eichwald said goodbye to the Stuttgart Ballet and then worked as a freelance dancer and choreologist .
