Maria Goswina von Berlepsch
Maria Goswina von Berlepsch (born September 25, 1845 in Erfurt , † April 10, 1916 in Vienna ) was a Swiss-Austrian writer and employee of several magazines.
origin
Her parents were the liberal bookseller and writer Hermann Alexander von Berlepsch (* March 17, 1813, † May 14, 1883) and his wife Teresia Antonia Mayr . Her brother Hans Eduard (1849–1921) became a painter.
Life, work and awards
Berlepsch spent her childhood and youth first in St. Gallen , then in Zurich . After the death of her father in 1883, in whose publications she was often involved, von Berlepsch went to Vienna with her mother and began to publish poems, novellas and stories as well as publications in, among others, Neues Frauenleben and Der Bund .
In her novels and short stories that are close to reality, she described “authentic, liberal types of the Swiss people in contrast to stunted, rigid, old-fashioned or emancipated, modern figures”. Gottfried Keller is considered her poetic model .
In 1905 von Berlepsch was granted honorary citizenship by the city of Zurich “for her poetic representations”.
