Hans Eduard von Berlepsch-Valendas
Hans Karl Eduard von Berlepsch-Valendas (born December 31, 1849 in St. Gallen ( Switzerland ), † August 17, 1921 in Munich ) was a Swiss architect and painter .
Life
From 1868 to 1871 von Berlepsch was a student a. a. by Gottfried Semper ; in Frankfurt a. M. and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , he trained as a painter. After a brief activity as a battle painter in Bulgaria (1879), he worked as an architect, interior designer and craft designer in Munich Art Nouveau (Villa Tobler in Zurich, Villa Berlepsch in Planegg near Munich). Strongly influenced by the English garden city movement , to whose most important representatives (including Charles Rennie Mackintosh , Raymond Unwin, Charles Robert Ashbee ) he maintained contacts, he submitted drafts for settlements and workers' houses that were committed to social reform (draft for the garden city of Munich-Perlach , 1910). At his country estate in Planegg he founded and directed a "School for Painting and Decorative Art".
