Life
Maria Jakobäa (by Hans Wertinger )
Maria Jakobäa was the daughter of Margrave Philip I of Baden (1479–1533) and Countess Palatine Elisabeth (1483–1522), daughter of Elector Philip of the Palatinate and Princess Margarete of Bavaria-Landshut. Her paternal grandparents were Margrave Christoph I of Baden and Countess Ottilie von Katzenelnbogen .
On October 5, 1522, Margravine Maria Jakobäa married Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria (1493–1550), eldest son of Duke Albrecht IV and Archduchess Kunigunde of Austria . The Schwibbogen in the first courtyard of Burghausen Castle , which is painted with the Bavarian and Baden coats of arms and the year 1523, is said to bear witness to this wedding .
Four children emerged from the mutual connection:
- Theodo (1526-1534)
- Albrecht V of Bavaria (1528–1579) ⚭ 1546 Archduchess Anna of Austria (1528–1590)
- Wilhelm (1529–1530)
- Mechthild of Bavaria (1532–1565) ⚭ 1557 Margrave Philibert of Baden (1536–1569)
