Maria Kloth (born December 22, 1895 in Hamburg , † September 13, 1988 ) was a German actress and singer .

Life

Maria Kloth was born in the Sierichschen Forsthaus in Hamburg's city park . In 1915 she was on stage for the first time in the Bieberhaus at Hamburg Central Station , in 1916 she played at the Carl-Schulze-Theater. Kloth took singing, acting and ballet lessons and appeared mainly on Hamburg theaters, for example at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus , the Thalia Theater and especially at the St. Pauli Theater , where she played the stage mother of Freddy Quinn in the play Heimweh nach St. Pauli embodied. At the age of 78 she was still standing en suite next to Quinn in the play Mensch, Kuddel, wake up! on stage.

Maria Kloth was one of the first interpreters at Nordische Rundfunk AG (NORAG), founded in 1924, as well as the Hamburg Harbor Concert , which first went on air on June 9, 1929. In addition, Kloth sang the leading roles in all of Paul Lincke's operettas , was a guest at many entertainment evenings with which she toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and appeared on the cruise ships of the Hamburg Süd line.

The Public Prosecutor , a silent film production by Vera-Filmwerke in Hamburg from 1920, was the first and one of the few films in which Maria Kloth took part in her acting career. In 1969 she stood again for an episode of the series Police Radio calls in front of the camera.

Maria Kloth's voice has been preserved on records, for example on the LPs Schön ist die Liebe im Hafen or Käpt'n ahoy! . Together with Franz Wendhof , she wrote the lyrics for the song Heute blau und morgen blau , the theme song for the film comedy of the same name from 1957. She sang this title on a record under the musical direction of Erwin Halletz .

In later years Kloth founded a guest performance director and leased the beach hall in the Baltic resort of Grömitz , but had to file for bankruptcy after a while. Maria Kloth, an aunt of the singer and actress Nana Gualdi , died at the old age of 92.
