Maria Komnena , Greek Maria Komnini ( Μαρία Κομνηνή ) (* 1154 ; † before 1217) was the wife of King Amalrich I, Queen of Jerusalem from August 29, 1167 to July 11, 1174.

She was the great niece of the Byzantine emperor Manuel I Komnenos . Her father was the Protosebastos Johannes Dukas Komnenos , her grandfather Andronikos Komnenos , her younger brother Alexios Komnenos .

After the marriage to his first wife had been annulled, King Amalrich I of Jerusalem tried to strengthen his alliance with Byzantium by marrying Maria Komnena, with which he operated against the Egyptian Fatimids . Hernesius, the Archbishop of Caesarea , and Eudes de Saint-Amand , the royal cupbearer , were sent to Constantinople in 1165 to pick up Mary. She was anointed and consecrated as queen in Constantinople. The embassy returned two years later and landed in Tire . The bride was accompanied by Emperor Manuel and Georgios Paläologos. The marriage with King Amalrich I was concluded on August 19, 1167 in Tire by the Patriarch Amalrich and Mary was crowned Queen of Jerusalem . Her morning gift was Nablus .

Their daughter Isabella came from their marriage to Amalrich .

After Amalrich died in 1174, Maria Komnena married Balian of Ibelin , the brother of Baldwin of Ramla , in 1177 , who thus became lord of Nablus. In November 1183 Maria Komnena attended the wedding of her then eleven-year-old daughter Isabella with Humfried IV of Toron in Kerak Castle , although she refused this marriage. Seven years later she had a decisive influence on her reluctant daughter that she separated again from Humfried and on November 24th 1190 took Konrad von Montferrat as husband. Maria Komnena's sons with Balian were Johann von Ibelin and Philip von Ibelin , the father of the lawyer Johann von Ibelin , Count of Jaffa. In addition, Maria Komnena and Balian had two daughters: Helvis von Ibelin , who first married Rainald Garnier , Lord von Sidon , and then Guido von Montfort , and Margarete, who was her first marriage to Hugo II von Saint-Omer and in second marriage with Walter III. wed by Caesarea .
