Maria Lang

Maria Lang (born March 31, 1914 in Västerås ; † October 9, 1991 in Nora ; actually Dagmar Maria Lange ) was a Swedish writer . Maria Lang is one of the most famous Swedish crime writers. From 1949 to 1990 she published 43 novels and four books for young people.

Life

Maria Lang studied literature at Stockholm University and received her doctorate in 1946 with a thesis on Pontus Wikner . From 1948 to 1968 she was the principal at the private girls' school Ahlströmska Skola in Stockholm . She worked as a lecturer until 1974. After her retirement, Lang moved to Nora, where she lived until her death.

In 1949 Maria Lang published the crime novel Mördaren ljuger inte ensam and caused some controversy as two of the main characters were in a homosexual relationship. Many motifs from the Lang thrillers can already be found in her first work: Swedish natural romance, a complex intrigue and a murder motif with a sexual background.

In 1971 she was one of the 13 Swedish authors who founded the Svenska Deckarakademin . After a dispute with Per Wahlöö about Richard Neelys being awarded the Swedish crime prize , she left the organization in 1973. 1985 her autobiography Vem är du? Dagmar Lange or Maria Lang . A year before her death, Se Skoga och sedan ... was her last novel.
