Maria Magdalena of Austria (1689–1743)
Maria Magdalena Josepha of Austria (born March 26, 1689 in Vienna ; † May 1, 1743 ibid), Archduchess of Austria, was a daughter of Emperor Leopold I and his third wife, Empress Eleonore von Pfalz-Neuburg .
She lived a secluded life and remained unmarried. Very little is known about their life. There were plans to marry Maria Magdalena to the Portuguese royal court, where her sister Maria Anna was queen. The bridegroom chosen for her was the Infanta Francisco, Duke of Beja, a brother of the Portuguese King John V. But these marriage plans failed in the preliminary stages.
Thus Mary Magdalene remained unmarried and childless. However, she had a close relationship with her niece Maria Theresa , the daughter of her brother Karl (Emperor Karl VI.). Maria Magdalena died of pneumonia at the age of 54 and was buried in the Imperial Crypt in Vienna .
