Maria Rohm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maria Rohm , actually Helga Grohmann (born February 25, 1943 in Vienna ; † June 18, 2018 in Toronto , Canada ), was an Austrian actress and film producer .

Life

Rohm became a member of the Vienna Burgtheater at the age of five , where she initially received an eight-year commitment to children's roles and later also appeared as an adult.

She was discovered for the film by producer Harry Alan Towers and made her debut in the thrillers Blonde Freight for Zanzibar and In Beirut, the nights are long as a dancer and gangster bride. She had a brief appearance in 1963 in the educational film Devil in the Flesh , in which she played a prostitute. The film does not appear in any of Maria Rohm's filmography, which can probably be explained by the fact that she was not mentioned in the credits at the time and the film could not be seen until its DVD release in 2008 and never appeared on VHS. In the 1960s, Maria Rohm appeared in many international productions, most of which were directed by Jess Franco . In these adventure films , which are always action-packed and often enriched with sex and violence , she was mostly the victim of villains, especially Draculas and Dr. Fu Manchus , each portrayed by Christopher Lee .

Since the late 1960s she was mainly seen in literary adaptations : as Juliette, the sly sister of Justine in Marquis de Sades Justine , as the mother of Jim Hawkins in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island or as the arrogant-naive Mercedes in the film adaptation of Jack London's Reputation the wilderness . In the mid-seventies, Maria Rohm withdrew from the screen and only worked behind the camera - initially in smaller jobs and from the 1980s as production manager at Harry Alan Towers, with whom she had been from February 28, 1964 until his death was married.
