Maria Scharwiess

Maria Scharwieß (born December 4, 1942 in Insterburg ) is a German composer , organist and church musician .

Life

At the age of ten Maria Scharwieß began to play the piano and organ. During her high school years she was active as a part-time church musician. She played keyboard in a band full-time for ten years , most of the time in Norway . She is also active as a bagpipe player.

From 1976 to 1979 she studied at the Spandau church music school . Since 1979 she has been the cantor of the Evangelical Nathanael parish in Berlin-Schöneberg . From 1999 to 2007 she was district cantor in Schöneberg.

Her compositional work includes works for organ and chamber ensembles as well as oratorios for solos, choir and orchestra.
