Maria Sigri

Maria Sigri , née Maria Siegrist , married Maria Hirschbühl , (born August 25, 1908 in Zurich ; † June 22, 2012 in Buchs AG ) was a Swiss opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

She studied in Zurich, Basel and Florence , among others . She worked at the Stadttheater Bern from 1943 to 1949. Later she appeared in Zurich, St. Gallen , Geneva , Lausanne , Lucerne , Milan , Rome , Florence, Turin , Vienna , Salzburg and Graz , Paris , Caracas , Barcelona , Athens and Ankara , Istanbul and Cairo . The operas she sings include The Abduction from the Seraglio , Le nozze di Figaro , Così fan tutte or The Magic Flute , where she played the Queen of the Night.

She was married to the painter Jack Hirschbühl from 1951 until his death in 2002. The couple lived in Bern and later in Ittigen . Maria Sigri died on June 22, 2012 at the age of 103 in Buchs AG , where she had already lived during her school days.

She derived the stage name Maria Sigri from her maiden name Maria Siegrist.
