resume

Maria Solheim grew up in Øksnes, a town with a population of 3,000, on Vesterålen in northern Norway. At the age of twelve she began to write poetry, at 14 she tried her hand at the guitar for the first time and a year later the first song lyrics followed. When she was 16, she worked as a freelancer for a regional newspaper. The devout Christian performed her own songs in the Sunday school of her local church. There she was discovered in the summer of 1997 by Kari Bremnes ' pianist Bengt Egil Hanssen, who referred her to Erik Hillestad, label boss of Kirkelig Kulturverksted , who in turn immediately made a studio and musician staff available to her for two days. This was followed by his first record deal at the age of 17, as well as the debut album Barefoot , which was produced by Hanssen and which was a great success in Norway. This was followed by appearances in the opening act of Suzanne Vega and a tour through Germany.

Solheim was able to put together her own band for the second album Behind Closed Doors . It was also released in Japan. A tour followed there. The successor Frail was produced by Emil Nikolaisen , known from the Christian-oriented bands Extol and Silver . He also contributed some guitar passages. In the years that followed, there were publications and performances in several countries. Then she retired into private life for a few years and started a family. During this time the single Rom for alle was released , a duet with Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby , at the same time her first song with a Norwegian text. It was awarded double platinum in Norway .

In 2012 she resumed her career and signed a record deal with BMG Chrysalis , who have been marketing their album In The Deep , which was initially only released in Norway, since 2014. Maria Solheim released her sixth solo album in spring 2018. Only a short time later she is on tour with new songs in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Their first single, I Wish I Were in a Band , was released in September 2017 and immediately hit the Norwegian radio charts.

Together with the TV entertainer and artist Silje Sirnes Winje, she also plays children's songs in the duo Silje og Maria . In addition to music, Maria Solheim has also published poems, including in an anthology edited by Lars Saabye Christensen , as well as organizing exhibitions of her own works of art and is involved in the musical Blott en dag about the Swedish poet Lina Sandell-Berg .
