Maria Walsh (politician)

Maria Walsh (born June 11, 1987 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an Irish politician of the Fine Gael (FG). Since July 2, 2019, she has been a member of the European Parliament of the European People's Party (EPP) in the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) .

Life

Maria Walsh was born in 1987 in the United States , the daughter of two Irish people . In 1994 the family moved back to Shrule, County Mayo , Ireland. From 2000 she attended Presentation College in Headford, County Galway . In 2006 she began studying journalism and visual media at Griffith College, Dublin , from which she graduated in 2009 as a Bachelor of Arts . She then went back to the States, where she first lived and worked in New York City and from 2011 in Philadelphia . In 2014 she won the Rose of Tralee as the Philadelphia representative .

In the 2019 European elections in Ireland she received 107,198 votes and, alongside Frances Fitzgerald , Seán Kelly and Mairead McGuinness, one of the four Fine Gael mandates in the EU Parliament . In the 9th electoral term of the European Parliament starting on July 2, 2019 , she became a full member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) as well as a deputy member of the Fisheries Committee (PECH) and the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) for the European People's Party (EPP) in the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) .
