Maria Wendt , also Marie Wendt , maiden name Anne Louise Marie Wendt (born May 6, 1876 in Bremerhaven , † July 1, 1961 in Leipzig ) was a German actress .

Life

Maria Wendt was the daughter of the actor Gottfried August Carl Wendt . She received her artistic training from Albert Steinrück . Her career began in 1892 at the Lobetheater, then she was in Posen in 1893, in 1894 at the Residenztheater in Berlin and in 1895 went back to Breslau. In Breslau she was also permanently engaged for two seasons from 1899 to 1901. In 1902 she took up permanent residence in Berlin, from where she made guest tours.

She performed on stages in Berlin, Königsberg, Kiel and Essen before she belonged to the ensemble of the Städtische Bühnen Leipzig for many years, where she also became an honorary member in 1959 . Wendt was considered an excellent character and mother actress.

She made her film debut in 1913 in the silent film Eva with Henny Porten in the leading role. After that he only appeared in front of the camera in several DEFA films after the Second World War . She had convincing late film assignments as the old mother in the fairy tale film Das Feuerzeug (1959) and as East resettler Helene Klimm in the two-parter Schlösser und Katen (1956/57).

Wendt, who according to statements from colleagues never wanted to age, made herself 19 years younger in official documents; She usually gave 1895 as the year of birth.

She was married to the actor Rudolf Lettinger .
