Marian Drăgulescu (born December 18, 1980 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian gymnast and member of the Romanian national team. At the 2004 European Championships, he won four gold medals. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , he was able to win one silver and two bronze medals.
The hand restraint rollover followed by a forward double somersault with a half- turn in the horse vault was named after him because he was the first gymnast to demonstrate this element at an international competition.
Another success was winning two gold medals at the 2006 World Gymnastics Championships in Aarhus , which he won on the floor and jump. Shortly before the World Championships in Stuttgart (2007) he injured himself and was replaced in the Romanian team by Cosmin Malița .
At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , he was able to convince with strong performances in the qualifying competitions, but was victim of his nervous weakness in the finals and thereupon announced his temporary retirement from competitive sports.
Before the 2009 World Gymnastics Championships in London , he surprised the press with the announcement of a comeback that turned out to be successful for him, winning two gold medals on jump and floor. Both Drăgulescu and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation failed to report Drăgulescu back to the FIG anti-doping program in the course of this comeback and thus evaded possible doping controls. The FIG then warned Drăgulescu in August 2010 and threatened him with a two-year ban if he did so again.
