Marian Ryser

Marian Ryser SOCist (born April 1, 1620 in Bremgarten ; † July 28, 1680 in Würenlos ) was a Swiss Cistercian and abbot of the Wettingen monastery .

Life

Marian Ryser, son of Johann Jakob Ryser and Margareta Bürgisser, was ordained a priest in 1644 and as such oversaw the monastery parishes of Wettingen (1647–1648), Dietikon (1648–1651) and again Wettingen (1651–1652). Joined the monastery in 1652, he was successively pastor in Würenlos (1656–1659), subprior (1659–1661), pastor in Dietikon (1661–1668), then Infirmar and Bursar. On September 24, 1672 he was elected abbot and as such was designated on July 23, 1673 by Abbot Edmund Schnider of the St. Urban Monastery . Since he did not meet the cherished expectations, he renounced the abbey on September 2, 1676 and withdrew - like the abbot, who was also resigned before himBernhard Keller - returned to the Wettinger Trotte Bick (Bickgut) near Würenlos, where he died in 1680. His grave is in the Wettingen monastery church .
