Life

Marianne Heese was born the second of five children to a wealthy Werler family of lawyers. Her parents were the mayor Johann Caspar Albert Alexander Heinrich and Maria Agnes Ley nee Ulrich. In 1806 she married the Werler merchant Johann Adolf Schlueter. After he died of typhus in 1821 , she lived in seclusion for eleven years as a widow in her parents' house on Kämperstrasse. Then in 1832 she married the Werl doctor Johann Friedrich Heese, who ran a large practice in Werl and the surrounding area. After her second husband had also died of typhus in 1848 and both marriages had remained childless, Marianne Heese determined in her will of February 20, 1854 that after deducting all bequests , her entire fortune would be donated to charity. The women's and virgins' association was used as an inheritance. The bishop of Paderborn was appointed protector and the pastor Alterauge from Werl was appointed curator . Furthermore, she continued her will add: "all other tutelage by the state, to the extent permitted, I want my Foundation . Relieved to see" The grave of Marianne Heese is on the Werl Park Cemetery.

Foundation, endowment

Two options were foreseen in the will. An institute for the upbringing of poor Catholic children and a hospital, under the direction of the women's and virgins' association, are to be set up in the testator's house. The prerequisite, however, is that the Vinzenzhospital already existing in Werl be closed. If this version is not possible, then a facility to raise poor, neglected children from Werl, as well as to accommodate people in need is to be created.

The city showed readiness to dissolve the Vincent Hospital. His assets were to go into the new Marianne Heese Foundation. The government was of the opinion that the city should also have a representative on the board of the new institute. The women's and virgins' association had submitted a draft statute through its legal advisor, in which two further members to be appointed by the city and the association were planned for the board. Alterauge had submitted a draft in which all rights were reserved solely for the curator . Correspondence about this violent dispute is still kept in the archives of the city of Werl.

Alterauge submitted the matter to Bishop Konrad Martin (1812–1879) as protector for a decision. After consultation with the President, a decision was made in favor of the submission of the association. King Wilhelm , who was staying in Ems , approved this statute on July 1, 1870. Since that day, the Marianne Heese Hospital, which was built and maintained from the foundation funds, has existed as a legal person. The board of the foundation is formed today by the pastor (provost) of the Walburgiskirche , the mayor and a lawyer to be appointed by the association.
