Marianne Werdel (* 17th October 1967 in Los Angeles , California as Marianne Werdel ) is a former American tennis player .

She achieved her greatest success at the Australian Open in 1995 . After a first round win against Gabriela Sabatini , she reached the semi-finals. There she was defeated by Arantxa Sánchez Vicario , who Werdel-Witmeyer was able to defeat twice over the course of the year - including when Sánchez was number 1 in the world.

Werdel-Witmeyer achieved her best ranking position on October 9, 1995 with position 21.
