Mariano García Remón (born September 30, 1950 in Madrid , Spain ) is a Spanish football coach and former football player .
Player career
García Remón played from the 1971/72 season until the end of his career in 1984 as a goalkeeper at Real Madrid . He was used 177 times in the Spanish league and 29 times in European club competitions. In addition to his two successes in the UEFA Cup in 1985 and 1986 - in the finals, however, Miguel Ángel and Agustín were between the posts - six times the Spanish championship title and four times the Spanish Cup. For the Spanish national team, he came on two missions.
The long-time Real goalkeeper played his best game in the 1973 European Cup quarter-finals against Dynamo Kiev in Odessa , Ukraine, and was then nicknamed "El Gato de Odesa", the cat of Odessa thanks to his saves that saved a 0-0 draw .

Coaching career
As a coach, he initially looked after the Real Madrid youth team and then from 1991 to 1993 the club's B team, which was then Real Madrid Castilla . There his assistant coach Rafael Benítez followed him . Head coach positions at Sporting Gijón (1993–1995, 62 games, first division), Albacete Balompié (1996–97), UD Las Palmas (1997–98), UD Salamanca (1999–2000), CD Numancia (2000–01, 21 games , First League) and Córdoba CF (2001-02) followed. His two trips to the first division ended prematurely when the two clubs were each on a relegation zone.
At the beginning of the 2004/05 season he was at Real Madrid as assistant coach of the newly appointed Camacho , with whom he previously played in a team at Real.
On September 20, 2004, he was promoted to the head coach position, as Camacho resigned after four game days. García Remón was not sufficiently successful in the eyes of the club's management and was dismissed after the first half of the season on December 25th, with the team in third place. In La Liga he had 7 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats. His successor at Real Madrid was the former Brazilian national coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo .
In 2007, Mariano García Remón worked for FC Cádiz again at short notice .
