Sophie Carla Pauline Marie "Mady" Huch , geb. Marie Gerstäcker (born May 19, 1853 in Plagwitz near Leipzig , † August 16, 1934 in Bautzen ) was a German writer .

Life

Marie Huch was the eldest daughter of the writer Friedrich Gerstäcker and his first wife, the court actress Anna Aurora, née. Sauer (1822–1861).

On December 6, 1870, the 17-year-old married the widower William Huch (1817–1888), 36 years her senior, in the Magni Church in Braunschweig , with whom she had six children, including the writers Friedrich Huch (1873–1913) and Felix Huch (1880 -1952). The family initially lived in the house at Hagenmarkt 13, which, after being destroyed in the Second World War , is no longer there today.

Through her marriage she was related to the Huch family from Braunschweig, from which several writers emerged, such as Ricarda Huch and her brother Rudolf Huch , both niece and nephew of her husband.

After her husband's suicide , she moved with her children to Dresden , where she and her family were financially supported by Richard Huch (1850-1914), stepson from William Huch's first marriage. Most recently she lived with her son Felix in Bautzen, where she died at the age of 81. She was buried in the Braunschweig Magnifriedhof next to the grave of her father, who died in 1872. Her children Friedrich Huch (1873–1913), Eva, married in the same grave. Müller-Hofmann (1882–1929) and Elisabeth Huch (1883–1956) are buried.

Her memoirs and those of her son Friedrich were published posthumously in 1978 by A. Graff .
