Marie Castle

Marie Schloß , b. Haas (born January 31, 1872 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † October 19, 1952 in Bern ) was a German writer and politician ( FVP , DDP ).

Life

Marie Haas was born as the daughter of the Jewish merchant and wine merchant Julius Haas. After attending the secondary girls' school in Freiburg and Landau , she continued her education with private studies in economics and foreign languages. In 1893 she married the tobacco manufacturer Adolf Schloß, gave birth to two sons and was a housewife in Emmendingen during their marriage . After the early death of her husband in 1907, she worked as an editor for the Badischer Landesbote in Karlsruhe . In addition, she was involved in social welfare and from 1912 had a job as a welfare officer in Königsfeld in the Black Forest . In addition, she worked as a writer and was a member ofGerman Peace Society , the Association for Social Hygiene and the Federation of German Soil Reformers .

Castle was initially a member of the Progressive People's Party (FVP) and campaigned for women's suffrage. After the First World War , she joined the German Democratic Party (DDP) and in 1919 became a member of the district of Villingen . From October 29, 1919, when she replaced the resigned MP Martin Venedey , until 1921 she was a member of the state parliament of the Republic of Baden . Her brother, the lawyer Ludwig Haas , was also a member of the state parliament.

In 1931 she moved to Gnadau to live with her son Erwin , with whom she went into exile in Switzerland after the Nazis came to power in 1935.
