Marie von Reitzenstein

Marie Freifrau von Reitzenstein (born December 2, 1854 in Hanover , † March 9, 1894 in Baden-Baden ) was a German writer .

Life

She was the daughter of the Hanoverian colonel and later ambassador to the Prussian court Wilhelm von Reitzenstein (1815–1864) and his wife Georgina von Halkett (born April 17, 1817),

On October 19, 1886, she married the officer Johann Karl Hermann von Reitzenstein (* May 15, 1851 - April 30, 1924) in Baden-Baden, who wrote in 1908 about The Royal Hanoverian Artillery in the War of 1866 .

Because of her works, especially her poetry , she was nicknamed " Hanover's Nightingale " in Hanover.

Marie Freifrau von Reitzenstein died, barely 50 years old, in Baden-Baden. She was buried in Celle .

Honors

After the City Council of Hanover decided in 1999 to name new streets mainly after women who played an important role in the history of the city, a brochure was published in August 2011 which gives information about previous street names after female personalities and a series lists of people after whom street names should be made in the future. The latter also includes a short biography of Marie Freifrau von Reitzenstein .
