Mariemont is a village in Hamilton County in the American state of Ohio , about 10 miles east of Cincinnati . The village has around 3,400 inhabitants (as of the 2000 census ). In July 1979, parts of the village were registered as a Historic District with the designation Mariemont Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places . In March 2007, this protected area was extended to the entire village and received the status of a National Historic Landmark as the Village of Mariemont .

history

Mariemont was founded as a planned city from 1920 to 1925 by the philanthropist Mary Emery (1844-1927) and planned by the landscape architect John Nolen (1869-1937) and carried out in collaboration with Charles Livingood (assistant and confidante of Emery). The architects chosen by Nolen to design the individual houses included a. Grosvenor Atterbury . The houses are built in Neo-Tudor , Neo-Colonial and Neo-Renaissance styles . Today 60 of the buildings are still preserved. According to Nolen's plan, half of the area of ​​Mariemont consists of private land with residential buildings, a quarter of street space and a quarter of public spaces and buildings such as parks and churches.
