The Marienkapelle ( Patronium Immaculate Conception of Mary ) in the district of Söder of the municipality of Holle in the district of Hildesheim is a Catholic church with a pilgrimage tradition . Besides Germershausen, it is the only Marian pilgrimage site in the Hildesheim diocese .

history

The Marienkapelle was built in 1862 by Andreas Graf zu Stolberg as a replacement for the chapel of the neighboring Söder Castle after the castle was sold to a Protestant family. The furnishing of the palace chapel, in particular the miraculous image of Our Lady in the star wreath, was transferred to the new building.

No parish belongs to the Marienkapelle in Söder. In the last third of the 20th century, Prelate Franz Josef Wothe worked with great energy to enliven the pilgrimage, to preserve the chapel with the pilgrim's house, outer altar and way of the cross and to expand the building and enrich it artistically . To this day, the small pilgrimage center is supported by private sponsors.

Since August 1, 2004, the Catholic residents of Söder have belonged to the parish of St. Hubertus , based at Burg Wohldenberg , in the Alfeld-Detfurth deanship of the Hildesheim diocese. Before that they belonged to the parish of St. Joseph in Henneckenrode .

Architecture and equipment

The outwardly unadorned building, located around 161 meters above sea level, consists of a nave with a transept and a front entrance area. The “top” of the cross plan is separated by the wooden altar wall and serves as a sacristy.

The interior shows an almost closed baroque interior . In addition to the miraculous image of Our Lady above the altar, several other large oil paintings with depictions of saints are striking .
