The Lady Chapel

The Roman Catholic Marienkapelle is located in the Simonskall district of the municipality of Hürtgenwald in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

The history of the chapel goes back to the 18th century. On July 22, 1741, the Simonskaller citizen Thomas Scholl was granted a seven-year chapel license by the Vicariate General . The chapel was initially in a specially furnished room in the "Simonskaller Burg". Over the years this authorization has been renewed again and again, most recently on April 28, 1917. As the chapel became too small over the years, the Simonskall Chapel Building Association was founded on October 17, 1930.

The local residents donated a piece of land. Today's Marienkapelle was built above the small town with funds from the church and the community of Hürtgenwald in 1935.

Furnishing

In 2006/2007 the relief “The Fallen” by Father Laurentius Englisch was installed in the Marienkapelle . The work is on loan from the Franziskusstiftung to the “Greyhounds admonish peace” association. The text on the two signs reads:

“THE DEAD from 1939-45 | did not fall for God and country. | Neither God nor the fatherland needs such | senseless sacrifice. | Jesus was on his way to execution three times on | Fallen cross.
