Marienkirche (Neustadt-Glewe)
The Marienkirche Neustadt-Glewe in the city center of Neustadt-Glewe is an early Gothic , towerless and single-nave brick building . The parish belongs to the Parchim Propstei in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).
Chronicle and description
The town church, built in the 14th century, was subsequently changed and redesigned many times. The Marienkirche with a three-sided east end has a simple west gable, which was designed as a blind gable . The outer buttresses with the pointed arched windows between them characterize the appearance and support the earlier Gothic vaults . Today the church has a gable roof and inside a grooved flat ceiling.
The interior decoration includes the magnificent wooden pulpit from 1587. It was designed by Tönnies Evers d. J. originally made for the Marienkirche in Wismar and came to Neustadt-Glewe in 1746. The pulpit had already been painted over in Wismar. The parapets with a Renaissance - ornament are divided by columns presented. Christ and five apostles are depicted in the arched niches .
The wooden altar with its painting of the Descent from the Cross, which is now attached separately to the south wall of the church, dates from the Baroque era . The painter was Johann Heinrich Suhrlandt , it is a copy of a picture by Anthonis van Dyck . The Gothic Neustädter Altar, formerly from Lübeck, was made around 1420 to 1435 by the master of the Jakobialtars . It has been in the Schwerin State Museum since 1841 .
The organ from 1873 was made by Friedrich Albert Mehmel and restored in 1996. The organ gallery was built around 1770 in connection with the new construction of the previous organ by Paul Schmidt (Rostock).
After the great city fire of 1728, the church also had to be rebuilt on the foundation walls. The church bell is located in the half-timbered outbuilding built in the 18th century .
