Marina Mescheriakova (Marina Iwanowna Mescheriakowa; Russian Марина Ивановна Мещерякова ; born January 31, 1964 in Volgograd ) is a Russian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Mescheriakova studied singing at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and with Renata Scotto and Licia Albanese in New York . After her debut at Moscow's Bolshoi Theater , she won several international competitions, worked on the great Italian soprano roles of the 19th century and quickly made guest appearances at all the major opera houses in the world, including Stockholm, Berlin, London, Paris, Milan, Vienna and San Francisco and New York. Her repertoire includes the title roles of Madama Butterfly , Norma , Francesca da Rimini and Luisa Miller , as well as Alice in Falstaff and Mimì in La Bohème .

Between 1996 and 2002 the artist appeared at the Vienna State Opera in six roles ( Elisabetta , Desdemona and Hélène , Tatjana , Figaro- Grafin, Cio-Cio-San ) and thirty performances. In 1998 she made her debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra . At the Salzburg Festival , Mescheriakova sang Elisabetta in Don Carlos from 1998 to 2001 and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in 2000 . In Berlin, Mescheriakova sang in Meyerbeer's Robert le diable in 2000 . She is also in demand worldwide as a concert singer .

There are a number of sound recordings, including two complete recordings of rarely performed Verdi operas with the Orchester de la Suisse Romande under Fabio Luisi : Mescheriakova sang the role of Hélène in Jérusalem and the title role in Alzira . Her interpretation of Antonida in Glinka's rarely performed opera Жизнь за царя ( A Life for the Tsar ), based on a 1992 Bolshoi Theater production , has also been praised .
