Mario García Incháustegui (born September 1924 in Havana , † December 4, 1977 near Kuala Lumpur ) was a Cuban ambassador .

Life

Mario García Incháustegui was the son of a wealthy Spanish household goods importer. He was married to Gladys Delgado Ortiz.

Incháustegui studied law and received his doctorate in civil and consular law from the University of Havana . He was a judge under the dictator Fulgencio Batista and went to Caracas in the 1950s, returned to Cuba in 1959, was appointed judge in the Oriente province and envoy extraordinary and ministerial plénipotentiaire in Montevideo .

In November 1959, the government of Alfredo Stroessner gave the government in Havana its Agrément , so that Mario García Incháustegui could be both as Cuban ambassador in Montevideo and at the same time as ambassador in Asunción . On January 12, 1961, the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno, chaired by Benito Nardone in Montevideo, declared Mario García Incháustegui to be a persona non grata . He was accused of supporting industrial action on November 21, 1960.

He then became a representative of the Cuban government at the UN headquarters . In the debate on the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962, he described the Soviet missiles as defensive and the sea ​​blockade imposed by the Kennedy cabinet as an act of war. From 1963 to 1968 he headed the international organizations department in the Ministerio del Comercio Exterior (MINCEX), (Cuban Ministry of Foreign Trade) and represented the Cuban government at numerous international conferences. For example, he negotiated the meetings of the International Coffee Organization in London . From 1969 to 1970 he represented the Cuban government at the United Nations Office in Geneva .

Incháustegui was appointed ambassador to Santiago de Chile on December 9, 1970 , where he was accredited from 1971 to September 11, 1973. From 1974 he worked as ambassador to Tokyo and was also accredited to the government in Kuala Lumpur in 1977. Gladys Delgado Ortiz and Mario García Incháustegui were passengers on Malaysia Airlines Flight 653 and were killed in its crash on December 4, 1977.
