Mario Guedes (born September 4, 1958 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former German heavyweight professional boxer, promoter and trainer. From 1992 to 1994 he was the International German Champion.

Amateur career

Mario Guedes began his boxing career at the Postsportverein 1925 Aachen , for which he played around 75 fights as an amateur and became super heavyweight champion in the Middle Rhine area .

Professional career

In 1985 he moved to the professional camp together with his mentor and sponsor Dieter Becker. In his hometown of Aachen he made his debut on September 7, 1985 against Horst Schulze, whom Guedes defeated in the third round with a technical knockout.

After a first round win over Mladen Stanmirović , Guedes boxed against Novak Radanović , who had only lost on points to Thomas Classen and Charly Graf . Guedes won in the sixth round.

In 1989 his friend and manager Dieter Becker died unexpectedly, which had an impact on him and his career. In November 1990 Universum Box-Promotion Guedes offered to fight against Knut Blin for the vacant International German Championship. After poor preparation (no real coach and no sparring partner), he took on Blin on November 16, 1990 and lost after a hard hit with a broken rib as a result after the sixth round by giving up.

At the beginning of 1992 there was a title fight for the vacant International German Heavyweight Championship between Mario Guedes and Mario Schießer in the Aachen Saaltheater Geulen . After ten rounds, Mario Guedes was the point winner and was the new international German heavyweight champion. Then he fought in the Tivoli Eissporthalle against Klaus Gallwe from Aachen and won by knockout in the seventh round. Guedes won a year later in frame fights against Young Joe Louis and John Morton . On October 15, 1993, Mario Schießer received his revenge and finally won after ten laps just on points. Guedes boxed on May 28, 1994 in his hometown of Aachen against the American Ken Jackson and knocked him out in the sixth round. Then he ended his active career.

Trainer and promoter

After his active career, Mario Guedes obtained his coaching license at MABV in 1995 and worked as a trainer for several boxing clubs in the region. In 1998, his best amateur boxer to date, Adnan Serin , switched to the professional camp and Guedes played a boxing trainer in the TV movie My Friend, the Bull . Mario Guedes developed a concept that should enable young athletes to create an existential basis for themselves through sport. For this reason Mario Guedes founded the amateur boxing club MTK Boxing Aachen in 2000 . The association is based in Aachen's east quarter , a social hotspot.

Here he sometimes successfully trains the boxers:

In 2005 Mario Guedes also founded, with Marion Forbrig as managing director, the Pound 4 Pound Box Promotion and Events Aachen . The first four professional boxers who were signed up all came from the MTK boxing club in Aachen. At the beginning of 2007, a training hall was set up especially for P4P professional boxers, also in Aachen's east quarter. In 2010 the P4P box promotion was converted into a GmbH.

His discovery Jessica Balogun has meanwhile achieved absolute world-class boxing status - she is world champion of two associations in three weight classes and until July 2010 she had successfully completed 17 professional boxing matches, including nine World Cup matches.

Mario Guedes jr., Currently the youngest professional boxer (16) in Germany, is (July, 2010) with three knockout victories from three fights.
