Mario Heil de Brentani

Mario Heil de Brentani (born March 5, 1908 in San Quirico , Italy, † 1982 in Canada ) was a German writer and non-fiction author and a German-Canadian magazine publisher .

Life

Mario Heil de Brentani came from a German-Italian family. He studied German and mechanical engineering and campaigned for the Nazi movement from 1930 onwards . He belonged to the “poet's comradeship” of the “Front Dichterheim Schloss Buderose near Guben , a group of around 150 authors, including numerous members of the “ SA culture ” and poets from the Hitler Youth . Even Edwin Erich Dwinger , Max Barthel , Rudolf G. Binding and Hans Friedrich Blunck were among this circle. Heil de Brentani was active in cultural policy in the Nazi sense and wrote, for example, on the occasion of the radio exhibition in 1935, the contribution “Workers and soldiers' spirit. Ein Wort an Kulturberufe ”and in 1941 as war correspondent “ The lucky pig of the 3rd Company ”. He wrote numerous short stories and short stories . His books were published several times. In 1941 Franz Lennartz still judged him: “A young, promising humorous narrator”. Brentani also wrote some non-fiction books, for example about old Frankfurt families.

After 1945 Mario Heil de Brentani emigrated to Canada . He changed his mind, changed his name to "Mario von Brentani" and together with his wife Ruth founded the German-language Montrealer Nachrichten , which he then worked as its editor. Employees of the Montrealer Nachrichten were z. B. Paul Spiegel and the cultural editor of the paper, Klausbernd Vollmar .

Von Brentani was considered the contact person for East Germany. The newspaper he published received financial support from the GDR at times . He wrote his last two books on Canada and Eskimo art .
