Mariola Brillowska

Mariola Brillowska (* 1961 in Sopot , Poland ) is a Polish-German artist, writer and filmmaker.

Life

Brillowska grew up in her hometown of Sopot and attended the Art High School in Gdynia near Gdańsk from 1976 to 1981 . She lived and worked in Germany from 1981 onwards. From 1985 to 1991 she studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg , where she then taught herself. After a brief activity as a lecturer at the University of Film and Television in the Babelsberg district of Potsdam . From 2005 to 2013 she was professor for drawing and illustration at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main .

Brillowska has been internationally known as a performer, illustrator and animator since the late 1980s. In 1991 she received the Grand Prix of the International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen for her very first cartoon . In 1999 her most important solo exhibition to date took place in the Kunsthalle Lingen . Brillowska has also been nominated several times for the German Music Video Prize MUVI for her music films and has also received awards, including for Hond Aerobics from 2007 and for The Lady Moon Turns Sulky from 2006, in which 60 of her students from Offenbach University of Design took part.

Between 2010 and 2011 , her live acting in the film performance Mein Vereinigte Universum was shown at various venues in Germany, first at the Volksbühne in Berlin . In 2014 she was a member of the jury for the international competition at the Stuttgart Animated Film Festival . In Hamburg's Kampnagel theater area, Brillowska has been producing stage performances such as Hond and Ritual Kanibalski de Luxe and Kim, ugly woman, beautiful man, since 2000 .

In her work she often moves in the field of tension between serious and entertaining art and uses elements of trash, kitsch, pop, club and slapstick art in her installations, performances, animated films and drawings.

In 2013 she published her debut novel Hausverbot with the Munich publisher Langen Müller .
