Mark Dorris (born December 27, 1985 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American basketball player who played as a professional in Germany after completing his studies in his home country . In the 2011/12 BBL season he played for the first division club EnBW Ludwigsburg .

Career

Dorris was a successful player in high school , but initially did not get a sports scholarship at a college organized in the NCAA and began his studies at St. Catharine College in Springfield , Kentucky , whose sports teams are organized in the NAIA . After a year he moved to the Marshall University in Huntington , West Virginia , and played for the college team Thundering Herd in the Conference USA NCAA Division I. The Thundering Herd , whose most tester player's Basketball Hall of Fame -member Hal Greer is, are however, they have not been a particularly successful college team in basketball in the recent past and were last qualified for the national finals of the NCAA in the 1980s . Dorris was selected in his senior year in the all-defensive team of his conference, which corresponds to the top five defenders. Afterwards, however, he had difficulties getting a contract as a professional basketball player and did not play a championship game for almost a year.

In 2009 he finally signed a contract with the BasCats from Cuxhaven on the North Sea coast in the second German league ProA . The 2009/10 season ended the BasCats on a promotion place for the first division. For licensing reasons one could not perceive the promotion to the first division and Dorris switched to last year's climber Phoenix from Hagen in Westphalia . For Phoenix he was the second best scorer in the 2010/11 season with 15.3 points per game and the best assists with an average of 3.6 assists in his team as well as a participant in the 2011 BBL All-Star Game . One season later, he moved further south and he signed a contract with the Swabian league competitor EnBW Ludwigsburg. The 2011/12 season was disappointing with the Ludwigsburg team and it was only just possible to avoid relegation to the ProA. For the 2012/2013 season, his contract was not extended by the club and Dorris left Ludwigsburg after a year. After initially not finding a new club, he rejoined his former club Phoenix Hagen for the 2012/2013 season after the start of the season.

Dorris left Hagen for the 2014/2015 season and initially kept fit in the USA at the Gem City Slam from the lower-class Universal Basketball Association. In January 2015 Dorris returned to Germany and received a trial contract with Bundesliga club Mitteldeutscher BC .
