Mark Galvin (born June 22, 1955 in San Francisco ) is a retired Irish racing driver .

Racing career

Mark Galvin was born in California , but moved to Ireland with his parents as a young child and grew up near Dublin . During his career, Galvin drove parallel Formula 3 and sports car races . He started in the British Formula 3 Championship as well as in the French and Italian championships . He was also entered in a few races in the Euro Series . The best place in the final classification of a championship of this racing formula was 12th in the British 1986 (champion Andy Wallace ).

Galvin drove sports car races for Spice Engineering , EMKA Racing by Steve O'Rourke and Mazdaspeed, among others . For Mazdaspeed, he celebrates his greatest success in international motorsport. At the 1987 Le Mans 24-hour race , he was partner of Dave Kennedy and Pierre Dieudonné in a Mazda 757 . The trio drove the rotary engine racing car to seventh place in the overall standings and won the IMSA GTP vehicle class. At the finish, the team had 36 laps behind the winner Hans-Joachim Stuck / Derek Bell / Al Holbert in the plant - Porsche 962 .
