In June 2005, Janse, together with Dimitris Papazachariou from the University of Patras, found native speakers of Cappadocian in Turkey, a mixed Greek- Turkish language that was believed to have died out in the 1960s. In this context, Janse also works on Turkish linguistics. In theoretical terms, he deals with language change , language typology , language contact and language death in antiquity and the present.
