Mark John Kennedy (born May 15, 1976 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player . The 34-time Irish national player , who is mostly on the left wing and as a full-back , is currently under contract with the English club Ipswich Town .

Athletic career

Kennedy's professional career began in east London at Millwall FC , where he made his debut on April 24, 1992 in a 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic . In the following three years he not only developed further with the "Lions", but also came into play in the Irish national teams - in 1994 first in the U-21 youth team and a year later in the senior national team . He drew particular attention when he scored a spectacular goal in the FA Cup in Highbury in January 1995 that eliminated favorite Arsenal FC from the competition.

Two months later, Kennedy moved to Liverpool . The £ 1.5 million transfer fee made him the most expensive teenager in British football history to date. However, he never met the high expectations of the "Reds". Only 18 competitive appearances were at the end of his three-year period at Anfield , during which he only received regular match practice between January and March 1998 at the loan club Queens Park Rangers . It was only after his final return to London immediately afterwards that he was again a fixture in a team at Wimbledon . His stay there should not last and after 21 league games and only one competitive goal in the league cup against Bolton Wanderers , he went back to the north of England to Manchester City in July 1997 for a transfer of 1.6 million pounds .

With the "Citizens" Kennedy rose to the Premier League after a year , but had to accept the direct relegation the following year. After the dismissal of coach Joe Royle , the successor Kevin Keegan made extensive changes in the squad and Kennedy was revealed that he no longer played a role in the further plans. He then moved to second division rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for two million pounds . There it looked for a long time as if he could achieve a direct promotion to the Premier League there in his first season too, until a groin injury put him out of action in the second half of the season and his team also slipped into the play-off places - there the club finally lost to Norwich City . Only a year later he made up for this success with the "Wolves" and in the final of the playoffs Kennedy scored the first goal for a 3-0 win over Sheffield United . In the Premier League, however, the club could not hold and after relegation and the change of coach from Dave Jones to Glenn Hoddle , Kennedy now acted more cautiously in the left midfield instead of on the offensive wing position. When Hoddle left the club in the summer of 2006, Kennedy also moved to the club on a free transfer after the parties could not agree on a new contract on reduced pay.

The new home was the Selhurst Park of Crystal Palace , which was then trained by Peter Taylor . Although Kennedy was a regular player during the 2006/07 season, the athletic progress failed to materialize; he shot on April 29, 2007 against Derby County his only league goal for the "Eagles" and under Taylor's successor, Neil Warnock , the Irishman rarely got the chance. At the end of the 2007/08 season this station was over and Kennedy was hired by Cardiff City , where his ex-coach Dave Jones had become the new coach.

Since the left midfield position in the "Bluebirds" was already taken to Joe Ledley , Kennedy suddenly found himself back as a left-back after Tony Capaldi's injury . After a two-month failure of his own, he continued to mostly fill this new role at his new club and was rewarded for his services with a new one-year contract at the end of the 2008/09 season.

On July 27, 2010 Mark Kennedy moved to the Roy Keane coached club Ipswich Town in the Football League Championship .
