Mark D. Witness (born July 9, 1930 in Bern , † May 7, 2003 in Küssnacht am Rigi ; resident in Duggingen ) was a Swiss graphic designer , entrepreneur and lecturer .

Life

Mark Zeugin was born on July 9, 1930 in Bern and grew up with his grandfather in Liestal , where he attended primary school. After a few years at the Lucerne Cantonal School, he began an apprenticeship as a graphic designer in 1950 and attended the Lucerne School of Applied Arts . Afterwards, a witness worked at the Klapproth advertising agency and finally joined the office community Zeugin & Stöcklin in Lucerne. In 1955 he married Gret Schuppli (1929–1985) from Liestal. In 1956 he founded his own graphic studio Mark Zeugin , which from 1965 developed into one of the leading graphic and advertising agencies in Central Switzerland .

In the 1990s he lived temporarily in Massa Marittima in Tuscany , which became his second home.

From 1978 onwards, she was a lecturer (specialist graphic teacher) at the School for Design Bern and Biel in Biel and at the School for Design Lucerne (today: Fachklasse Graphics Lucerne at the Fach- und Wirtschafts- Mittelschulzentrum FMZ) in Lucerne .

From 1963 to 1972 was a witness to the president of the Federation of Graphic Designers (BGG) and from 1972 to 1975 of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Schweizerischer Gestalter (ASG). He was also a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and the Swiss Graphic Artists Association (SGV).

Witness was involved in the Lucerne Carnival and was a passionate athlete. He was particularly enthusiastic about curling . At the European Curling Championships in 1980 he reached 5th place with the Swiss team. He died on May 7, 2003 on the Küssnacht am Rigi golf course.

Witness worked as a graphic artist mainly in the areas of poster design, printmaking, design and book design. He also designed impressive logos. Witness was able to present his work in numerous exhibitions. He spent a large part of his free time painting.

Zeugin founded the zeugindesign-Stiftung in 1998 . Since then, it has been awarding prizes and project support in the field of visual design.

Awards

Zeugin won numerous prizes for his poster and book designs, including four times between 1959 and 1975 the " Swiss Poster of the Year " award (1959, 1963, 1974, 1975). Among other things, his posters for the equestrian event CSIO Switzerland in Lucerne, for Caritas Switzerland and for the Lucerne region (“Fatherland” with a large, red “V”) were awarded.
