Duggingen is a municipality in the district of Laufen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland .

geography

Historical aerial photo from 900 m by Walter Mittelholzer from 1930

Duggingen borders on the communities of Aesch , Pfeffingen , Grellingen , Seewen , Hochwald , Dornach and Himmelried .

The area of the municipality is 586 hectares, of which 30% is agricultural area, 57% forest, 12% building zone and 1% unproductive area.

Duggingen is a typical single-family village because of its rural location and the well thought-out zoning regulations. The large, fully developed building land areas make Duggingen currently an attractive place for newcomers. The land prices are moderate compared to the neighboring communities of Arlesheim and Aesch with square meter prices of CHF 400–650.

history

In 1330 the community was first mentioned in a document as "Tuggingen". Archaeological finds, however, show that the area was already settled by the Romans. Duggingen belonged to the rule of Pfeffingen and thus to the diocese of Basel . From 1330, the fiefdom was held by the knights Jakob and Johannes von Hofstetten, and the bishop's liege lords were also appointed: the lords of Bärenfels, von Angenstein and von Thierstein, and temporarily Heinrich von Ostheim , a servant of Count Heinrich von Thierstein. In 1815 the municipality was assigned to the canton of Bern by decision of the Congress of Vienna and in 1994 moved to the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

coat of arms

Duggingen has had an official coat of arms since 1946. It shows an upright black bear with red claws and a red tongue on a red three-mountain, against a golden background. This is the coat of arms of the Lords of Bärenfels and is officially mentioned for the first time in 1305.

population

The Dugging families include the Hofner, Ruetsch, Saladin and Witness families, who are still living in the village today. The population has increased sharply in recent years due to the plentiful supply of building land. The community is equipped with its infrastructures for a population of up to 1,600 people. The population in Duggingen is divided into 19.4% foreigners and 80.6% Swiss.

traffic

Duggingen can be reached by rail, regional line S 3, in just 15 minutes from the city of Basel. The A18 motorway ends at Angenstein Castle and can be reached in two minutes by car from Duggingen. The motorway is fully developed from Reinach. The city of Basel can be reached in around ten minutes by car.
