Both tribes were born around 58 BC. Defeated by the Romans. Around 500 the Alemanni settled down and brought farming with them. The Röschenz court probably came to the duchy of Basel in 1004 through a donation from Emperor Heinrich II . The first documentary mention of Röschenz dates from 1290 from an interest book of the Augustinian canons of St. Leonhard in Basel, where among the debtors is a woman named Bela von Röschenz, who was named as the owner of a garden (Ortus bele dicte de Roeschentzo). Röschenz is also mentioned in 1302 in the prince-bishop's Collectorium. The farm was administered by the Ramsteiners , who also owned Zwingen Castle . Due to its extinction, Röschenz belonged again to the diocese of Basel from 1459 . In 1580 Röschenz had 160 inhabitants.

In the 16th century, Röschenz was also hit by the peasant wars. As a result, many locals rebelled against the prince-bishop and switched to the Protestant church. The leader of the Röschenzer was a Fridolin Scherrer. Nevertheless, in 1589 the Prince-Bishop von Blarer succeeded in making the villages in the area Catholic again. The then canton of Laufen also included Röschenz, which was then assigned to the canton of Bern at the Congress of Vienna. Röschenz has been part of the canton of Basel-Landschaft since 1994 . The village had been in the headlines since March 2005 because of its Catholic pastor Franz Sabo , who was deprived of the missio canonica after his open criticism of the church hierarchy , but whereupon the local parish unanimously backed him. In the opinion of the diocese leadership, the parish should have dismissed him; the parish intended to challenge the threatened dismissal in court. The trial date was set for August 28, 2007. On September 5th it was decided that the parish would not have to dismiss its pastor Franz Sabo. In late September 2008 there was a reconciliation between Sabo and Bishop Kurt Koch .
