As Baselstab or Baslerstab will shepherd's crook or crozier in the arms of villages and towns in the Basel region designated.

The bishop's staff of the Prince-Bishop of Basel can be found in the coat of arms of the city of Basel and the cantons of Basel-Stadt , Basel-Landschaft and Jura . The Basel staff of Basel-Stadt is black and that of Basel-Landschaft and Jura is red.

The incumbents Kurt Koch (retired) and Felix Gmür also use corresponding bishop's coats of arms .

The staff is a historical curiosity: until the Reformation , the seat of the Bishop of Basel was actually in Basel ( Diocese of Basel ), then for some time in Pruntrut and since the 19th century the official seat of the Bishop of Basel has been in Solothurn . However, the diocese is still called the Diocese of Basel and the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft have, despite their Reformed creed, kept the bishopric in their coat of arms.
