The Lützel (French: Lucelle ) is a tributary of the Birs in Switzerland and France .

geography

course

The Lützel has two main source streams: the Bief de la Côte de Mai southwest of Pleigne and another, roughly equally strong stream south and west of Bourrignon . Both streams join south of the hamlet of Le Moulin in the municipality of Bourrignon and then flow through a Klus .

The Étang de Lucelle is dammed near the Pleigner hamlet of Lucelle . Shortly below the lake, at boundary stone 31, the crossing takes place in the area of the French commune Lucelle , in the area of the former Lützel monastery . A few 100 meters later, at Grenzstein 29, the Lützel becomes a border river for about 11 kilometers between Switzerland and France and first crosses the former territory of the Lützel Abbey (since Le Moulin ) and that of the Löwenburg rulership , today divided between the communities of Pleigne in the south and Lucelle in the north.

From around Neumühle / Moulin-Neuf , the Lützel separates the communities of Kiffis and Roggenburg . At Klösterli it re-enters Switzerland entirely, crosses the Kleinlützel and Röschenz districts and finally flows into the Birs as a border river between the Laufen and Liesberg districts .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Lützel borders in the north on that of the Ill on the Rhine , but in the west on that of the Doubs and thus the Rhône .

Route international

Between Lucelle and Kleinlützel, where the Lützel forms the border between France and Switzerland , a French main road with the status Route international runs along the river. The road crosses the border several times without customs facilities, i.e. the Lützel. It plays an important role for the Swiss communities of Roggenburg and Ederswiler , as it is the fastest connection, especially to the east in the direction of Laufental and in the west in the direction of Lucelle and Ajoie . Swiss Postbuses on route 112 run on the international route. Passing through in Swiss army uniform is not permitted, so, for example , army personnel stationed in Bure for training have to make a detour via Delsberg via Col des Rangiers or through the tunnels of Mont Russelin and Mont Terri (Train or motorway) via Saint-Ursanne .
